What is required to enroll in the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program?

A patient is required to have Medicaid to be enrolled in to the CDPAP program. If the patient is eligible but does not yet have active coverage, Preferred Home Care can help you apply for Medicaid. We will need the name and contact information of the patient’s primary care physician so that we can obtain the necessary documentation.

Who is eligible to be my caregiver, and what do they need to apply?

A caregiver can be anyone you trust to provide the care you need. They can be a family member, a friend, or a neighbor. To apply, potential caregivers need to have had a physical examination within the last year. They also need rubella and lab results, two PPD shots within the last year, and undergone a drug screening. If the caregiver has any difficulty obtaining this required information, our CDPAP specialists will assist in obtaining it for you. Documents you will need include a Social Security card, proof of residency, and two forms of photo ID.

How much does the caregiver get paid?

Preferred Home Care offers considerable benefits for providing caregiver services, including weekly pay with direct deposit or a paycheck, paid vacation, overtime, and sick days. However, compensation is set on a case by case basis. The insurance company will set the final rate based on the approved hours and the needs of the patient. Is there any training needed to be a caregiver?

No formal training, license, or certificate is necessary to be a caregiver under CDPAP. Patients will be able to tailor the services their caregiver provides to fit their needs.

Is my caregiver able to live in the same house as me?

Yes, however, there are two restrictions to this. The caregiver cannot be your spouse and they cannot be the parent of a child under 21.

How long does it take for the patient to be enrolled?

If the patient has Straight Medicaid, we can process and enroll you within 30 days. If the patient does not have Straight Medicaid, our CDPAP specialists will work with you to expedite the process.

How many hours of service will the patient get?

A registered nurse will conduct an evaluation to determine home many hours the patient will be receiving.
